While not necessarily complete nor definitive, the following is a list of indoor and outdoor plants and trees that are known to be toxic to birds. Consult this list and choose plants and trees carefully for your home. This is vital to your bird's health and safety. If a particular plant is not included on this list, you should investigate other sources such as your veterinarian*, bird magazines and books, and postings on the internet before deciding that exposure to it is safe for your bird.
Please note: We have chosen to list only unsafe plants & trees. Reported "safe" plant and tree information is not easy to verify and may be conflicting at best. Informed and responsible bird owners should always consult with their veterinarian as to the safety of any vegetation with which their feathered friend may come in contact. A cliché but true: "It is better to be safe than sorry." And another of my favorites: "When in doubt, leave it out."
